Silhouette journal

|    home

You will need:

  • paper or cardstock for silhouettes (any colours you like)
  • scrapbook, journal, or other surface
  • adhesives
  • scissors
  • pens (optional)
  • decorative elements (optional)
  • frame (optional)

Do:

  • Trace and cut out however many silhouettes you like each week - of objects, people, buildings, etc. that impacted you in some way.
  • At the end of the year, or month, or whatever, arrange them on your surface then glue them down.
  • Decorate the silhouettes if you want, creating a frameable collage with them.

Notes:

  • You can use a different colour for each silhouette, or select a specific palette to choose from, or choose a different palette for each week, day, month, or object type.
  • To show some separation so you can tell one silhouette from the next (particularly important if you use the same colour for all of them), you can use a pen, paint marker, or coloured pencil to mark the edges of the silhouette in some way (or colour whole parts of them) before you add them to your final collage.
  • You could use patterned paper or fabric.
  • Experiment with scales and, instead of having all silhouettes the same size, try different ones.
  • Instead of a collage, use your silhouettes to create a large mural on the wall.
  • Create a large mural in a public space where people can contribute their own silhouettes.
