You will need:

  • Air-dry clay or polymer clay
  • Sculpting tools (plastic knives, toothpicks, etc.)
  • Rolling pin (if using air-dry clay)
  • Acrylic paint (optional)
  • Brushes (optional)
  • Varnish or sealant (if using air-dry clay)
  • Tiny ephemera of varying kinds (optional)
  • Shadow box, cradled panel, etc. (optional)
  • String (optional)

Do:

  • Knead the clay to make it soft/pliable.
  • Sculpt the clay into various shapes, figures, or miniatures using your hands and tools.
  • Press various items into the clay while it's still soft. (optional)
  • Allow the clay to dry completely if using air-dry clay.
  • Follow the specific drying instructions provided with the clay.
  • If desired, paint the sculptures with acrylic paints once they're dry.
  • Seal the sculptures with varnish or sealant, if using air-dry clay, for added protection.

Notes:

  • You could display your pieces in a shadow box, cradled panel, on another board, or in an old tea box.
  • You could make sure to create a hole in the pieces if you want to string them after they're dry.
