You will need:

  • photos of your choosing
  • a selection of pens, fineliners, paint pens/markers

Do:

  • Choose a photograph of anything you like that perhaps has easily defined or definable outlines.
  • Invent your locale.
  • Using a very visible colour of ink either in pen, fineliner, or paint marker format, trace the outlines of areas. Those lines will become your roads.
  • Note and label things like roads, intersections, bodies of water, mountains and hills, greenspace, urban areas, schools, government buildings, etc.

Notes:

  • You can develop a simple set of symbols to represent different map features and create a legend.
  • If you do a series of these, you could create your own atlas-style book with the collection.
