Bookmarks

|    home

You will need:

  • pressed flowers or leaves
  • washi tape
  • thin wood slats
  • old keys
  • small paintings or drawings
  • old book/magazine pages
  • yarn, knitting needs, crochet hook
  • embroidery floss, embroidery needles
  • pieces of fabric
  • cardstock
  • scissors
  • a selection of art supplies
  • access to a laminator

Do:

  • Press flowers or leaves between sheets of wax paper and allow them to dry,
  • Create simple designs by layering washi tape on a piece of cardstock or thin wood.
  • Paint a design on a thin slice of wood.
  • Attach a key to a ribbon, string, or strong elastic to make a bookmark charm.
  • Use small pieces of canvas or cardstock to create tiny works of art that can be used as bookmarks.
  • Upcycle old book/magazine pages/covers by cutting them to appropriate sizes and decorating them, if desired.
  • Crochet or knit a tiny bookmark accessory, such as a single chain or simple tassel, and adding a charm if desired.
  • Use fine threads to embroider a piece of cardstock or cloth with patterns, or even a person's name.

Remember:

  • Most of these items are going to require lamination to preserve the items and increase sturdiness and longevity.

Notes:

  • Don't use items that are too bulky, because that could cause damage to the book.
  • Be careful when adding dangling items or charms, that they can't be easily ripped off, or cause damage when inside a bag.
  • Don't use anything that could lead to a security risk or identity theft, like old credit cards or ID badges.
