Creative Idea of the Day

2025    2024    |    index

Every day on my Idealog account on Bluesky - except for the days I forget - I share a quick creative idea - in addition to the more lengthy ones.

And because I like to archive things all in one place, I archive the collections here, adding the list on the last day of the month.

July

  1. Make something involving - or about - a maple leaf.
  2. Make a list of things about the place you were born.
  3. Create a stop motion film where the letters of a particular word rearrange themselves across a surface into different shapes or patterns.
  4. Decorate plain cardboard/shoe boxes for storage, decor, or gift-giving by covering them with magazine pages or repurposed wrapping paper.
  5. Do something you miss doing.
  6. Arrange a random group of words on a page to create a poem, image, or something abstract.
  7. Create a poem for a stranger from words found in public spaces.
  8. Place a small amount of change or a gift card in a public place.
  9. Create keychains or bag charms using small found objects.
  10. Transform an everyday scene into an extraordinary one.
  11. Create a box filled with items that engage your senses, like scented candles, soft textures, relaxing teas, and a good book.
  12. Make a list of things you'd like to do for yourself. Do one.
  13. Leave a bouquet of flowers or small plant on a neighbour's doorstep or in a public area.
  14. Create a time-lapse of, for example, something growing and augment each image with text or other decoration.
  15. Favourite flower.
  16. Make a list of themes for playlists.
  17. Paint a mural or make some wall art.
  18. Take a photo of a pattern, like chequered tablecloth or a striped shirt, maybe rough stone or soft fabric.
  19. Create a story around a random found object, like tickets, receipts, a rusted key, or notes.
  20. Design your own merit badges.
  21. Photocopy an image repeatedly, changing the settings each time.
  22. Start a book by a local author.
  23. Donate blood.
  24. Make a list of things to do on your big day out.
  25. Write one-sentence stories based on things you've overheard.
  26. What is your worst fear?
  27. Cut out images, text, shapes, patterns, and textures from various print media, paste them into sturdy card, and attach them to a metal ring. Add to it when you find something new. Voila! Instant inspiration!
  28. Create a library of lost things, art pieces that tell the stories of discarded or misplaced items.
  29. Make note of random names of businesses, text on posters, random other bits of text that come into view, and use them to create a written piece - such as a poem. You can use a notebook, app, or take a picture to keep track.
  30. Draw winding paths and fill them with tiny stories.
  31. Make a list of things to start.
